United Airlines has established itself as the leading operator for flights from the US to Europe, with 104 daily departures planned for July 2026. This is a slight decrease of 1% compared to July 2025, while the overall market has seen a 2% increase in services.

One notable change for United is the discontinuation of its daily flights from its Newark fortress hub to Stockholm, a route inherited from Continental. This route, typically operated by a Boeing 757, was set to become the longest transatlantic 757 service. United will no longer serve Scandinavia, resulting in a total of five European routes with reduced flights.

Four of these changes involve Newark, which is United’s main hub for European activity. Flights to Athens have been reduced from 10 times weekly to daily, while Brussels has been decreased from double daily to daily. Additionally, Edinburgh and Frankfurt will both see a drop in frequency, with flights being reduced from double daily to daily for Edinburgh and from 11 weekly to daily for Frankfurt. Washington Dulles, United’s second-busiest hub for European services, will also see a decrease in flights, with Geneva flights being reduced from daily to three times weekly.

However, United is also set to add five new routes to its European map. Of these, three – Bari, Santiago de Compostela, and Split – have never been served by any airline. United will be the sole provider of long-haul flights to Santiago and Split, while it will also compete with Neos on the Bari to JFK route.

These additions showcase United’s innovative approach to network planning, which has been evident throughout the pandemic. The new routes are expected to be included in the popular Weekly Routes article once they begin operating.

United will also be returning to Glasgow in 2026, after previously serving the city in 2019. This move follows the trend of other carriers consolidating at Edinburgh, and United will join WestJet in returning to Glasgow next year. Additionally, United will also start offering flights between Washington Dulles and Keflavik, making it the first time this market has had two carriers since PLAY ceased operations in 2024.

The new routes are scheduled to begin on various dates in 2026, with daily services to Glasgow on a 737 MAX 8 starting on March 5th. Other routes include three weekly flights to Split on a 767-300ER beginning on April 30th, four weekly flights to Bari on a 767-300ER starting on May 1st, daily flights to Keflavik on a 757-200 beginning on May 21st, and three weekly flights to Santiago de Compostela on a 737 MAX 8 starting on May 27th.

In total, United plans to have 85 routes to 35 European airports in July 2026, with 42 daily departures from Newark, 22 from Dulles, 18 from
