JetBlue and United Airlines have recently announced a new partnership, offering frequent fliers the opportunity to earn and use points on both airlines and trade airport slots in the New York area.

Under the agreement, United will gain seven takeoff and landing slots at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York, while JetBlue will receive eight slots at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New Jersey. Although the specific routes that will utilize these slots have not been disclosed, the deal is still pending regulatory approval.

This marks United’s return to JFK after a hiatus since 2022, while JetBlue currently operates approximately 180 daily flights out of JFK. JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty stated that “United’s global reach perfectly complements JetBlue’s East Coast leisure network,” and this partnership will offer added benefits for TrueBlue members, regardless of their travel destination.

Similarly, United CEO Scott Kirby expressed the company’s desire to provide MileagePlus members with more value and benefits through this collaboration. However, the airlines will continue to operate and price their networks independently, including the launch of new routes, frequencies, and promotions.

Both JetBlue and United loyalty program members will have the opportunity to earn and use points on either airline, along with access to their respective perks, such as preferred boarding and seating. This new arrangement is expected to be implemented in the fall, with some technical details still being finalized to allow for seamless booking and travel between the two airlines.

Shares of both airlines saw an increase in value before the market opened following the announcement of this partnership.
