Qantas to Increase Nonstop Auckland-New York JFK Route to Daily Service

In an effort to provide more options for travelers during the busy US summer season, Qantas has announced plans to increase its nonstop Auckland-New York JFK route to a daily service from June to October 2026.

This move will not only give travelers more flexibility in their travel plans, but it will also strengthen Auckland’s role as the premier gateway between New Zealand and North America. The announcement was made through a social media update by the airport.

Qantas first resumed flights to New York in 2023 with a new route from Sydney to JFK via Auckland. Initially, the oneworld member only operated the route three days a week after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The flights between Sydney, Auckland, and New York are operated by Qantas’ Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet. These aircraft offer a three-class configuration, including 42 lie-flat business class seats in a 1-2-1 layout, 28 premium economy seats in a 2-3-2 layout, and 166 economy class seats in a 3-3-3 layout.

To enhance the overall travel experience for its customers, Qantas recently completed a redesign and expansion of its existing lounge precinct at Auckland International Airport. These plans were put on hold due to the pandemic but have now been completed to provide a modern pre-flight experience for travelers heading to and from Australia, as well as those on the new Auckland-New York service.

The existing two lounge spaces were combined and transformed into a single Qantas International Lounge, increasing the total capacity by approximately 40%, from 244 seats to 340 seats. This means more travelers can enjoy the amenities and services offered by the lounge before their flight.

These changes by Qantas demonstrate the airline’s commitment to providing premium services and options for its customers. With the increased frequency of the Auckland-New York JFK route, travelers can now have even more choices when planning their trips to and from New Zealand and North America.
