Delta Air Lines Unveils Prototypes for New Uniform Collection in 2027
Delta Air Lines has revealed prototypes for their new uniform collection set to roll out in 2027. The designs return to Delta’s core colors of navy, white, burgundy, and red, with employee feedback playing a key role in the design process. The airline recently unveiled the prototypes in a fashion show at their Atlanta headquarters and will now begin wear testing and refining before its official release to employees in 2027.
In a recent interview, Delta Design Lead Thomas Vasseur discussed the process of developing the new collection in partnership with the airline, Missoni, and Land’s End. He also shared what steps are next before the uniforms are ready for Delta employees around the world to wear.
Understanding the Voice of the Employee
According to Vasseur, the main focus in the initial stages was to understand the voice of the employee. He spent the first two weeks reading feedback and listening to their concerns. The team then moved on to sketching and selecting fabrics, shapes, and colors. The new designs are a return to Delta’s classic color scheme, with navy, white, burgundy, and runway red being the main colors.
Distinctly Delta Tour and Wear Testing
The next step for the team is the “Distinctly Delta” tour, where they will travel to 20 different hubs to present the new pieces to employees in their work stations. This will be followed by a full wear test, where employees will be given a kit with a selection of items to wear and test extensively. The fit and durability of the garments will be closely monitored during this stage.
Exciting Details and Unexpected Feedback
Vasseur revealed that he is most excited about the dresses for above-wing employees, as well as the technical jackets for below-wing employees. He also shared that the most unexpected feedback they received was regarding pockets. Flight attendants, who are constantly on the move, emphasized the importance of having enough storage space. As a result, the team added invisible pockets in the pants, skirt, and vest for added convenience.
A New Beginning for Delta Employees
As Delta celebrates its centennial milestone in 2027, the new uniform collection marks a reset for employees. According to Vasseur, the collection is designed to reflect a more modern and consistent look for the airline. The interior elements of the aircraft have also been incorporated into the uniform, creating a seamless and consistent brand experience for travelers.
In conclusion, Delta Air Lines’ new uniform collection is a result of extensive research and collaboration with employees and partners. The airline hopes that the new designs will not only provide a fresh and modern look for its employees but also enhance the overall travel experience for its customers.
