Electric Aviation Startup Beta Technologies Makes Impressive Debut on New York Stock Exchange

On Tuesday, Vermont-based electric aviation startup Beta Technologies made a grand entrance onto the New York Stock Exchange, raising over $1 billion in its initial public offering. The company’s founder and CEO, Kyle Clark, along with his family and other officials, rang the iconic opening bell at 9:30 a. m. and were met with enthusiastic cheers of “Beta! Beta! ” from the trading floor.

Under the ticker symbol “BETA,” the company priced its shares at $34, surpassing the expected range of $27 to $33 and demonstrating strong interest from investors. Beta also decided to offer more shares than initially planned, resulting in a higher cash influx for the South Burlington-based firm.

This IPO marks a significant milestone for Beta, as it is the first initial public offering by a Vermont company in many years. The company, founded by Clark in 2017, has quickly become one of the most prominent companies in the state, despite still being in the development stage for its electric aircraft. With a market value of over $7. 5 billion at its IPO price, Beta’s entry into the market is a testament to its potential for growth.

Beta is currently working on multiple versions of small electric aircraft that can carry up to five passengers, as well as the necessary electric motor and charging technologies. Along with numerous companies worldwide, Beta is racing to usher in the era of advanced air mobility, which is expected to revolutionize air travel in the future. The company aims to have its first certified version of the Alia prototype, which functions like a conventional airplane, by the end of 2026 or early 2027.

Prior to its public offering, Beta had already raised over $1. 5 billion in private investments, including a recent $300 million investment from GE Aerospace. The industry giant was also one of the firms interested in purchasing shares of Beta through the IPO.

With a workforce of over 800 employees, many of whom are based at its headquarters at Burlington International Airport, Beta is poised for further growth and success in the future.
