Vertical Aerospace, a global aerospace and technology company, has released its Business & Strategy Update for the third quarter of 2025. The company’s Q3 2025 financial results can be accessed on its investor relations website.
Transition Flight: The Defining Capability of the VX4
Vertical has announced that it will begin the transition flight testing phase this week for its VX4 aircraft, with full transition flights expected by the end of the year. The company will also share an animation explaining this critical step during its Business & Strategy Update call. To prepare for transition flight, Vertical’s engineering and test teams have completed extensive simulation, ground, and flight testing in collaboration with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), meeting all 200 CAA Minimum Safe Aircraft requirements.
Vertical reveals first images of certification aircraft
Vertical has also released the first images of its certification aircraft cabin design, which is believed to be the largest in the industry. The cabin is designed for passenger comfort and operator flexibility, with features such as a luxurious four-seat configuration, a unique six-seat configuration, and an observer seat next to the pilot in the cockpit. Additionally, there is a generous cargo hold for up to six cabin bags and six check-in bags, with a total payload of 550kg / 1,200+ lbs at entry-into-service. A divider between the cockpit and passenger cabin provides safety and privacy.
Business Plan Progress and Updated Operational Outlook
At its Capital Markets Day in September, Vertical refined its 2030 operational and financial goals, including targeting at least 175 aircraft production and deliveries by 2030. The company also aims to achieve a 20% gross margin by 2030, ramping up to approximately 40% at scale. In terms of cash flow, Vertical is targeting positive net operating cash flow of over $100 million by 2030, compared to its previous breakeven target.
Upcoming Milestones
Vertical has several upcoming milestones, including the completion of piloted transition flight in Q4 2025, which is a key engineering proof point and critical de-risking step for the VX4 platform. The company will also reveal its new full-size aircraft design at an event in London on December 10, 2025. Additional tier-one production partners will be announced, complementing existing partners Honeywell and Aciturri Aircraft. The final prototype aircraft will be fully assembled in December 2025, with plans to fly both eVTOL and hybrid versions thereafter.
Clear Path to Certification and Financial Outlook
Vertical has a clear timeline and path to type certification in 2028, with the UK/European certification process front-loaded. The company estimates the further cost to certification to be approximately $700 million. It is achieving the highest safety threshold for a fraction of the cost compared to others in the market.
Vertical remains on track to meet its 2025 net operating cash outflow guidance of $110-125 million, thanks to disciplined cost controls and industry-leading capital
