Global Airlines, a UK-based startup, is set to launch its first transatlantic flight from Glasgow Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Thursday. The return flight will land back in Glasgow on Monday. The airline has contracted Portuguese charter airline Hi Fly to operate this special A380 flight. In January, the airline’s superjumbo was ferried from Dresden in Germany to Beja in Portugal for maintenance.
The A380, registered as 9H-GLOBL, arrived at Glasgow Airport on Tuesday afternoon after a positioning flight from Beja. The aircraft received a water cannon salute welcome upon its arrival. The US-based flight tracking site AirNav Systems shared the news on social media, stating that Global Airlines is about to begin a new chapter in transatlantic travel.
FlightRadar24, the largest flight tracking network in the world, also shared the news on social media, announcing that the Global Airlines A380 is en-route to Glasgow for its inaugural transatlantic passenger flight on May 15.
To promote its first charter flight, Global Airlines has reduced ticket prices for economy, business, and first-class seats. Originally priced at £778 for economy, £3,700 for business, and £7,127 for first class, the airline’s CEO James Asquith announced on LinkedIn that they are now offering return tickets for only £380. Asquith also shared a promo code for those interested in booking the flights.
