In September 2024, American Airlines revealed plans to expand its routes across the Atlantic Ocean. This included more options for customers to visit three popular European cities: Athens, Greece, Barcelona, Spain, and Naples, Italy. These changes were made despite the macroeconomic state being more stable before the change of administration in the White House.
Summer 2025 Schedule
The summer 2025 schedule was announced on September 5, 2024, and began on March 30. It included five new routes to Europe and extended three existing routes, providing customers with more opportunities to travel to their favorite vacation destinations across the Atlantic Ocean.
The new routes included flights from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to Athens Airport (ATH) starting June 5, from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) starting March 30, from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Rome Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport (FCO) starting July 5 (switched to June 5 start in November 2024), from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to Edinburgh Airport (EDI) starting May 23, and from Philadelphia to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) starting May 23.
Extended Services to Athens, Barcelona, and Naples
Along with the new routes, American Airlines also announced that it would be offering more travel dates on flights from Philadelphia to Athens and Naples International Airport (NAP) and from Dallas/Fort
