United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby recently shared his annual Memorial Day message with employees, expressing gratitude to servicemembers for their ultimate sacrifice, as well as veterans and United employees. In his remarks, Kirby also praised the United States, calling it “the greatest country in the history of the planet,” and offered words of encouragement for the upcoming summer travel season.
Kirby’s message was delivered via a video shared with employees over the weekend. He highlighted that Memorial Day marks the start of the busy summer travel season and that this year is expected to be the busiest in history for United. He took the opportunity to thank those who have made the United States the great nation it is today.
He also expressed his gratitude towards United employees, acknowledging their hard work and resilience in overcoming challenges. Kirby urged them to stay focused and continue providing exceptional service to customers, emphasizing that United is and will continue to be the best airline in the history of aviation.
This is not the first time Kirby has praised the United States and its servicemembers in his Memorial Day message. On average, United is anticipating around 540,000 passengers per day and will operate over 4,600 flights daily during the holiday period.
According to United, the top domestic destinations for Memorial Day weekend are Orlando, Las Vegas, Boston, and San Diego. Internationally, Cancun, London, and Frankfurt are the top destinations for United travelers. The airline is also expecting around 50 million people to fly with them in June, July, and August, approximately 3 million more than last year.
To accommodate the busy summer season, United is launching 17 new flights and will offer up to 950 daily flights to 144 international destinations, including 37 that are exclusive to United. The airline is also expanding its reach by adding 10 new cities to its network, including Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Nuuk, Greenland; Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; Madeira Island, Portugal; Faro, Portugal; Dakar, Senegal; Puerto Escondido, Mexico; and Regina, Canada.
Despite initial signs of a slowdown in travel in March, there has been no significant decrease in demand. As United prepares for a busy summer, the airline is making strategic moves in New York City to solidify its position in Newark while also returning to JFK.
In conclusion, Kirby’s message of unity and appreciation for servicemembers and employees is
