The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey recently reported that their commercial airports and ports experienced a strong uptick in July 2025. In fact, it was the second-busiest July ever for both, with 13. 3 million passengers passing through the airports and 794,268 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) being handled by the port. Airports

Despite facing operational limitations at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) due to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issues, the Port Authority’s commercial airports saw a 3% decrease in passenger volume compared to July 2024. This was largely due to severe weather events and a decline in passenger traffic at EWR, LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

Over the July Fourth holiday weekend, the airports served 2. 2 million passengers, just 10,000 shy of the record set in 2024. From January to July, the airports welcomed 81. 6 million passengers, a 7% decrease from the same period in 2024. EWR saw the biggest decline at 7%, followed by LGA at 3%, and JFK remaining steady.

Port of New York and New Jersey

The Port of New York and New Jersey also had a successful July, handling 794,268 TEUs and coming in just 1. 5% below the record set in July 2024. This marked a 19. 8% increase from July 2019. From January to July, the port moved 5,211,550 TEUs, a 3. 9% increase from the same period in 2024 and a 20. 1% jump from the first seven months of pre-pandemic 2019. The port has maintained its position as the second-busiest port for loaded TEUs in the United States.

PATH Commuter Rail

The PATH commuter rail system saw a 9% increase in ridership in July 2025 compared to July 2024. This brought the total number of passengers to 5. 3 million, which is 74% of pre-pandemic levels in July 2019.
