Memphis International Airport has seen a significant increase in the number of routes added in the last five years, according to officials from the airport. This announcement comes after Southwest Airlines revealed their plans to offer a new nonstop route between Memphis and Austin, Texas.

Glen Thomas, the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications for the airport, stated that a total of 23 routes have been added from 2021 to 2026, while 18 routes have ended during the same period. This has resulted in a net addition of 5 flights.

However, Thomas clarified that the raw numbers do not tell the whole story. Out of the 18 routes that have ended, only two destinations – Mesa Gateway Airport in Phoenix and Punta Gorda Airport in Florida – are no longer accessible from Memphis International. He also highlighted that multiple airlines still operate flights to Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport from Memphis.

Overall, Memphis International will have 36 destinations in 2026 compared to 31 in 2021. This includes new routes to San Antonio, Pensacola, Raleigh-Durham, Nashville, Boston, Knoxville, and JFK Airport in New York.

In terms of passenger traffic, the airport served 4. 8 million passengers in 2025, a significant increase from 3. 59 million in 2021. Similarly, the number of aircraft seats also saw a jump from 2. 41 million in 2021 to 3. 22 million in 2025.
