United Airlines, based in Chicago, operates a large fleet of over 1,000 aircraft, all of which are currently manufactured by American company Boeing. The most prominent aircraft in their fleet is the Boeing 777-300ER, of which they have 22 in operation. According to data from Cirium, an online aviation analytics company, these aircraft are most frequently used for flights to various destinations across Europe, Asia, Guam, and the Middle East.

The United 77W, as it is commonly referred to, is equipped with United Polaris, Premium Plus, Economy Plus, and Economy cabins, as well as amenities such as in-flight WiFi, USB ports, power outlets, and seatback entertainment.

Finding your assigned seat on the United 77W can be a bit of a challenge due to the aircraft’s large capacity of up to 350 passengers, spread across four classes. This makes the 77W one of United’s most premium-heavy aircraft, with a lower seating configuration compared to their other Boeing 777-200 and Boeing 777-200ER models, which can accommodate 364 and 362 passengers, respectively. Although United has plans to modernize their fleet under their “United Next” strategy, the 77W will remain a permanent part of their future plans, with no immediate plans for retirement. However, they will gradually be replaced by newer models such as the Boeing 787 and the A350-1000.

The 77W has a total of 60 United Polaris business class seats, arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration with a standard seat pitch of 6/6′ (198 cm) that can fully recline for a comfortable sleeping experience. The premium economy cabin, known as United Premium Plus, has a configuration of 2-4-2 and can accommodate 24 passengers, with a seat pitch of 38″ (96. 5 cm). United Economy Plus offers extra legroom to 62 passengers in rows 30 to 35 and 45-46, with a 3-4-3 seating configuration and a seat pitch of 34″ (86. 3 cm). The remaining section of the cabin is reserved for United Economy passengers, with 204 seats in a 3-4-3 configuration and a seat pitch of 31″ (78 cm).

The 77W has been in operation at United since December 2016, when the first aircraft was delivered. Since then, 21 more 777-300ERs have been added to the fleet, with the latest delivery in March 2020. Combined with their other 777 models, United currently operates a total of 96 aircraft from the 777 family. As part of their fleet modernization, United plans to replace their older 777-200s, used for domestic flights, with the newer 787-10 Dreamliner.
