Delta Offers $12 Million for Spirit’s Gates at Atlanta Airport

Delta Airlines has put forward a bid of $12 million to take over the gates previously used by Spirit at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This news was reported by WSB-TV, citing documents filed in Spirit’s ongoing bankruptcy and liquidation case.

The two gates in question, C4 and C6, are currently being used by Spirit but will become available as the airline ceased operations on May 2. According to the filing, Spirit is in favor of the transaction and believes that Delta’s offer is the best one they will receive.

In the documents, Spirit states that “entering into the assignment agreement with Delta would yield the highest or otherwise best offer for the use and lease agreement and will provide a greater recovery for their estates than any known or practicably available alternative. ” This decision has been made after consultation with their advisors and in the best interest of the company.

The sale of the gates to Delta will need to be approved by the federal court that is overseeing Spirit’s wind-down. In a statement to WSB-TV, Delta acknowledged their bid for the gates and stated that they will work with the city of Atlanta to ensure that the facilities are used in a way that benefits customers and maintains the airport’s position as a leading global gateway.

However, Delta did not disclose how they plan to use the two gates if the sale goes through. It is also worth noting that Spirit’s gates, aircraft, and equipment are currently being sold off by a small team of employees who are overseeing the company’s assets. The proceeds from these sales will go towards paying off the defunct airline’s creditors.

In conclusion, Delta’s bid to take over the gates formerly used by Spirit at Atlanta Airport is a strategic move by the airline to expand their operations and strengthen their position as a leading carrier. The deal is still subject to approval by the federal court, but if successful, it will be interesting to see how Delta utilizes the two gates to enhance their services for customers at Atlanta Airport.
