A new flight route from the Portland International Jetport to Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport has been launched by Avelo Airlines on Wednesday. This addition makes Avelo the ninth provider to fly into the Portland Jetport. The flights will operate twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, with the use of Boeing 737 aircraft.
Founder and CEO of Avelo Airlines, Andrew Levy, expressed his excitement for this new development, stating that it marks a great day for Portland as they introduce a new era of convenient, affordable, and reliable travel to the city. He also mentioned that this service will make Southern Connecticut and the surrounding regions, including New England and New York, easily accessible for travelers. Levy also looks forward to providing a fast and seamless journey for Connecticut travelers to Portland’s artistic, outdoor adventure, and cultural scenes.
New Haven, home to Yale University, is the second-largest city in Connecticut and a part of the New York metropolitan area. Paul Bradbury, the PWM Airport Director, shared his enthusiasm for the new nonstop service to New Haven, stating that it will provide convenient and economical access to Connecticut and the tri-state area. He also mentioned that the New York metro area is one of the top two markets, and this new service will offer another convenient access point to the larger New York and Tri-State market.
However, Avelo Airlines has faced criticism for their recent agreement with the Department of Homeland Security to operate charter deportation flights from Mesa Gateway Airport in Phoenix. New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker expressed his disappointment in the company, stating that their business decision is in opposition to the city’s values. Despite this, Avelo Airlines remains committed to providing high-quality services to its customers and expanding their reach to new destinations.
