American Airlines to Launch New Daily Nonstop Flight from Madison to New York

American Airlines has announced plans to introduce a new daily nonstop flight from Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) in Madison, Wisconsin to New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) starting September 3. The route will join two existing daily flights operated by Delta Air Lines.

New Route and Aircraft

The route will be operated by American Eagle, the regional brand for American Airlines, using the Embraer E175 aircraft. With a capacity of 76 passengers, the E175 is the standard aircraft for this route. The service will introduce competition between Delta and American Airlines on the route, providing passengers with more options for travel.

Additional Flights from Dane County

According to Dane County Executive Melissa Agard, the new daily nonstop flight from Madison to New York City’s LaGuardia Airport will make leisure and business travel extremely convenient. This addition brings the total nonstop flights from MSN to 17 destinations, including Denver, Phoenix, and Orlando.

The new flight schedule, as per Cirium flight data, is as follows:

Scheduled American Eagle LGA to MSN Route:
– Departure from LGA at 17:25 on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. – Arrival at MSN at 19:02 on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. – Duration of 2 hours and 37 minutes.

Return from MSN to LGA:
– Departure from MSN at 6:00 on Thursday, September 4, 2025. – Arrival at LGA at 9:19 on Thursday, September 4, 2025. – Duration of 2 hours and 19 minutes.

Competition with Delta

While the new route is operated as a regional service, it is ultimately an American Airlines flight that will directly compete with Delta, another large American airline. Delta began nonstop service from MSN to LGA on October 11, 2021, as announced in a press release by Dane County on October 4, 2021.

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi believes that the new route will provide more opportunities for residents of south-central Wisconsin to visit New York City and other East Coast locations. The airport aims to provide seamless, low-stress, and affordable options for both leisure and business travelers through this route.

Emphasis on Leisure Travel

Leisure travel is an important part of Dane County Regional Airport’s services, as highlighted by Airport Director Kim Jones. The addition of the new route will not only provide more competition and potentially lower prices for passengers, but it will also be operated by Republic Airways, a well-regarded regional operator.

Republic Airways currently operates 206 Embraer aircraft, including 76 Embraer E175s for American Eagle, Delta Connection, and United Express. The airline recently announced a merger with Mesa Airlines, expanding its operations to include United Express flights.
