Global Airlines Launches First Transatlantic Flight from Glasgow to New York
Global Airlines, led by CEO James Asquith, is on a mission to bring back the “Golden Age of Travel,” by elevating the onboard experience and providing exceptional service on flights between the UK and US. This vision became a reality on Thursday, May 15, when the airline’s first transatlantic flight took off from Glasgow Airport to New York JFK.
Pre-Flight Preparations
The Global Airlines Airbus A380, with the registration 9H-GLOBL, was towed from its remote parking stand to gate 34 at Glasgow Airport. Check-in for the flight, HFM380, opened at the same time. The flight is operated by Hi Fly Malta, a Maltese subsidiary of a Portuguese operator, as they are the only non-scheduled organization with experience flying the A380.
To celebrate the launch, an arch made of red, white, and blue balloons was set up at the airport, and cupcakes were handed out to passengers.
A Surprise Upgrade
Noel Philips, an aviation and travel vlogger, paid $2,999 for a business-class ticket but was pleasantly surprised to find out he had been upgraded to first class for the Global Airlines flight. Mr. Philips, a British national living in Texas, shared his excitement with The Independent, stating that he had just flown in the night before and was flying back on the inaugural flight.
An Impromptu Interview
During his live broadcast at the airport, travel journalist Simon Calder was approached by James Asquith, the founder of Global Airlines. Mr. Asquith challenged him for previously doubting the success of the airline, to which Mr. Calder responded by asking about the future plans for the airline. Mr. Asquith joked about turning the aircraft into a spa, but ultimately stated that the future is unknown and he is just happy to have made it this far.
Boarding and Takeoff

A Special Upgrade
Derek Steell, a retired civil servant, was pleasantly surprised to receive a free upgrade to business class at check-in. He mentioned that he is 6’4″ and usually travels in premium economy with British Airways. He asked if he could pay for an upgrade, but the check-in staff authorized a complimentary upgrade for him and his wife.
In-Flight Experience
During the 6-hour and 20-minute flight, passengers were offered a glass of champagne, and the cabin crew provided a safety reminder before takeoff. The menu options included sea bass, herbed chicken ballantine, and a spiced white bean and aubergine cassolette. The meals were served in a classy manner and were better than
