Allegiant Air to Add New Routes at Atlantic City International Airport

Atlantic City International Airport will soon be welcoming a new airline, Allegiant Air, which will offer flights to four destinations in Florida. This addition comes as the airport’s second major air carrier, following Spirit Airlines which has been providing flights to the area despite financial uncertainty.

The new routes to be operated by Allegiant will be to Fort Lauderdale, St. Petersburg, Sanford, and Punta Gorda. The first flight is scheduled to depart on December 11th, with twice-weekly flights available for all routes. Tickets will start at $39, making Allegiant a low-cost option for travelers.

The airline is headquartered in Las Vegas and has been in business for 25 years. They currently operate flights to 125 cities and are owned by the Allegiant Travel Co. While it is not yet known if the partnership requires approval from the Federal Aviation Administration, Allegiant’s vice president of planning, Kristen Schilling-Gonzales, expressed a desire for future expansion at Atlantic City if there is demand.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy praised the announcement, stating that the expansion has the potential to benefit the state’s transportation infrastructure and economic opportunities. The South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA), which owns the airport, also expressed their support for Allegiant’s arrival and mentioned their incentive program for airlines.

This news comes just a day after Allegiant announced five non-stop routes to eight cities, with a focus on destinations in Florida, Alabama, and New York. These schedules are set to begin in late 2025 and early 2026.

The addition of Allegiant comes as Spirit Airlines, the airport’s current carrier, has expressed concerns about their financial stability. However, SJTA director Stephen Dougherty stated that the news from Spirit’s latest earnings report did not influence the partnership with Allegiant. He also mentioned that the authority is constantly in talks with airlines and hopes to see more carriers in the future.

In addition to Allegiant and Spirit, American Airlines also offers a coach-style bus service from Atlantic City International Airport to Philadelphia International Airport, which has seen an increase in demand since its launch.
