American Airlines Announces Expansion of International Routes in Summer 2026

In an effort to increase its global presence, American Airlines has announced the launch of six new routes in summer 2026. These new routes include the only nonstop service between the United States and Budapest, Hungary, as well as a new connection to Prague.

The airline will also enhance its transatlantic and South American networks with new or expanded service to Athens, Milan, Zurich, and Buenos Aires. In addition, American Airlines will be increasing its premium seating capacity to Tokyo from both Dallas-Fort Worth and Los Angeles.

New Routes to Budapest and Prague

Starting May 21, 2026, American Airlines will offer daily seasonal service from Philadelphia to Budapest and Prague, marking its entry into two previously unserved markets in Central Europe. The flights will use Boeing 787-8 aircraft and bring the total number of transatlantic destinations served from Philadelphia to 20.

This move fills a significant gap in the North America-Hungary market, which has been without direct service since LOT Polish Airlines ended its Budapest-New York JFK route in September 2022. The airport has been focused on restoring U. S. connectivity, making American Airlines’ new route a highly anticipated addition.

Enhanced Service to Athens, Milan, and Zurich

American Airlines will also begin daily seasonal flights from Dallas-Fort Worth to Athens on May 21, providing its fifth U. S. gateway to the Greek capital. This new route will join existing services from New York JFK, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Charlotte. Additionally, Miami will gain daily year-round flights to Milan from March 29, complementing its existing seasonal flights to Rome.

Moreover, from May 21 to August 4, American Airlines will operate limited-time summer service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Zurich. This will provide travelers with more options to explore the beautiful Swiss city during the peak summer season.

Expanded Service to Buenos Aires

The airline is also extending its seasonal Dallas-Fort Worth to Buenos Aires flights into summer and adding frequencies between Miami and the Argentine capital. These additions are in response to the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which will be held in various cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This will better serve fans attending the highly anticipated event.

Increased Premium Seating to Tokyo

American Airlines is further expanding its Asia network by increasing its premium seating to Tokyo Haneda. Starting March 29, the airline will operate a daily 777-300ER from Dallas-Fort Worth and two daily 777-200ER flights from Los Angeles. This will provide passengers with more options to travel to the vibrant and bustling capital of Japan.

In Conclusion

With the launch of these new routes and expansions, American Airlines is solidifying its position as a leading global carrier. These additions will not only provide travelers with more options to explore new destinations, but also enhance the airline’s network and connectivity.
