Delta Air Lines has announced that it will no longer operate flights out of London Gatwick Airport (LGW) in 2026. Instead, the Atlanta-based carrier will focus on its hub at Heathrow Airport (LHR), the region’s busiest airport.

Previously, Delta operated seasonal flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Gatwick during the summer months. However, as reported by industry watcher Ishrion Aviation, these flights will not be returning next year.

According to a statement from a Delta spokesperson, this decision was made in order to align their flying with market demand. The carrier will continue to operate twice-daily service between JFK and Heathrow from April to October.

Delta’s route to Gatwick was unique among the dozens of daily flights between the US and London. It was the only route to the smaller London airport, which is located south of the city and is a popular departure point for intra-Europe flights. Gatwick is also the largest base for British low-cost carrier EasyJet.

In contrast, Heathrow is a major international gateway and a global hub for Virgin Atlantic, Delta’s SkyTeam alliance partner. Other airlines have also scaled back their service to Gatwick recently. British Airways will end nonstop flights from Gatwick to JFK and Las Vegas in 2026, while JetBlue no longer serves LGW from JFK.

Overall, flights between the US and Gatwick are expected to decrease by more than 25% in the first half of 2026 compared to 2025. However, a few routes will still remain, including Norse Atlantic Airways’ flights from JFK and LAX, British Airways’ flights from Orlando and Tampa, and JetBlue’s flights from Boston.

While the loss of any London route may disappoint travelers, LHR offers a much larger network of destinations for those connecting to other global destinations. Delta will continue to operate nonstop flights to Heathrow from all but one of its international hubs (LAX). In addition, the carrier has added new nonstop flights to popular European destinations for next summer, including Porto, Portugal; Malta; and Sardinia, Italy.
