The study, which analyzed over 60,000 companies, found that Worcester, Massachusetts is the best small business city in America for 2025.

Located 45 miles west of Boston, Worcester has a thriving economy with high average annual revenues, strong credit scores, and mature businesses. The city has also experienced a 14% population growth between 2010 and 2020, with 51% of residents under 35 years old.

One of the major factors contributing to Worcester’s success is its highly educated workforce. The city is home to several prestigious colleges and universities, including Worcester Polytech (WPI) and UMass Chan Medical School. These institutions have helped to fuel the city’s economy, particularly in advanced manufacturing, robotics, biotechnology, and other high-tech sectors.

In addition, Worcester has seen a significant increase in new businesses in the past year, with over 2,700 new companies being created in the county alone. The city’s Chamber of Commerce credits this growth to the influx of talent and ideas from the nearby colleges and universities.

Worcester also benefits from its affordable cost of doing business and its convenient location. The city is just an hour’s drive from other major cities in the New England area and is served by seven major highways. It also has a daily commuter train to downtown Boston and
