Flight Delays and Cancellations Plague United Airlines
On Wednesday, FlightAware, a website that tracks flight disruptions, reported that 35% of United Airlines flights were delayed and 7% were canceled. By Thursday morning, the numbers had improved slightly, with 4% of flights delayed and 4% canceled.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also issued an alert on Wednesday, stating that all United flights heading to Chicago were halted at their departure airports. Flights to other United hubs, including Denver, Newark, Houston, and San Francisco, were also affected.
In response, United Airlines issued a travel alert on their website, warning that a technology disruption could impact flights to and from several U. S. airports from Thursday to Sunday. These airports include Denver, Newark, Washington, Houston, New York, Los Angeles, Orlando, Chicago, San Francisco, Honolulu, and Guam, as well as some in Europe such as London, Frankfurt, and Munich.
The airline assured their customers that safety was their top priority and that they would work with them to get them to their destinations. They also stated that the system outage, which lasted for several hours, was not related to recent concerns about cybersecurity in the airline industry. United confirmed that they would cover any customer expenses, such as hotel stays, if applicable.
The FAA released a statement on Thursday, acknowledging the disruption to United’s operations and warning that delays may continue as the airline recovers. They also offered full support to help United address their flight backlog and stated that they were in close contact with the airline.
On social media, United Airlines apologized for the travel disruption and announced that they would cover hotel and other expenses for affected travelers. They thanked customers for their patience and assured them that their teams were working to resolve the outage as quickly as possible.
This recent incident has caused inconvenience and frustration for many United Airlines customers, but the airline is working to resolve the issue and get their operations back on track. Passengers are advised to check their flight status and to contact United Airlines for any further updates or assistance.
