China Airlines to Operate at New Terminal in New York’s JFK Airport in 2026

In an effort to provide even better services to its passengers, China Airlines (CAL), one of the top international carriers in Taiwan, has announced its plans to begin operations at the new terminal one at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport in 2026. This news comes as CAL President Kevin Chen and The New Terminal One CEO Jennifer Aument signed a letter of intent to establish a long-term partnership, making CAL one of the first airlines to move to the new terminal.

The new terminal at JFK is a key component of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s US$19 billion project to transform the airport into a world-class gateway. The construction will take place in phases, with the first phase, including the new arrivals and departures halls and 14 new gates, expected to open in 2026. The terminal is set to be fully completed by 2030.

CAL has stated that the new terminal will incorporate several advanced designs to ensure sustainability, such as a large solar panel system, the largest among all airports in the United States. The terminal will also utilize electric ground support equipment (eGSE) and a rain recycling mechanism for landscaping irrigation.

CAL President Kevin Chen expressed his excitement about the future of The New Terminal One at JFK airport and hopes for an efficient construction process. He also looks forward to utilizing the latest technology to promote CAL and showcase Taiwan to its customers.

The move to the new terminal will not only improve the services for passengers flying with CAL, but it also demonstrates the airline’s commitment to the North American market. With a network of nearly 500 weekly flights, CAL is able to ensure strong connectivity for transfer passengers traveling between Asia and North America.

Currently, CAL operates flights to six destinations in North America, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Ontario, and Vancouver. The airline also provides over 40 round trip flights between Taiwan and the United States and Canada, with four flights per week to New York using the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

Aside from passenger flights, CAL also operates a wide cargo network, serving 12 destinations across North America.

The airline remains optimistic about the demand for flights between Taiwan and the United States and is continuously expanding its network to meet the needs of its customers. With its commitment to providing top-notch services and its strong presence in the North American market, CAL is set to become one of the leading carriers at JFK’s new terminal one.
