China Airlines to Partner with New Terminal One for Enhanced Travel Experience in New York City
In 2026, China Airlines (CAL), a Taiwan-based carrier, will begin operations at The New Terminal One at New York John F. Kennedy International Airport. This partnership between CAL and the New Terminal One is part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion plan to transform JFK Airport into a world-class gateway. The new terminal, along with other renovations, will offer an elevated travel experience for customers and support CAL’s expansion in North America.
The New Terminal One is a major component of the Port Authority’s plans for JFK Airport and will include two new terminals, the modernization and expansion of two existing terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a simplified roadway network. With its cutting-edge technology, world-class retail and dining options, and exceptional guest service, the New Terminal One will provide an unmatched travel experience for CAL passengers in New York City.
CAL currently operates four weekly flights from JFK to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and will continue to do so until 2026 when they will move their operations to the New Terminal One. This move will not only enhance the travel experience for CAL customers but also cater to the large Taiwanese community residing in New York City.
Jennifer Aument, CEO of The New Terminal One at JFK, expressed excitement over the partnership with CAL and their shared commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences. Kevin Chen, President of China Airlines, also looks forward to utilizing the latest technology to promote CAL and share the excitement of Taiwan with their customers.
As a member of the SkyTeam global airline alliance, CAL joins four other SkyTeam carriers – Air France, KLM, Korean Air, and SAS – in selecting the New Terminal One as their new home. Other leading airlines, including Etihad, LOT Polish Airlines, EVA Air, and Air Serbia, will also operate at the New Terminal One.
In addition to passenger services, CAL also operates a strong cargo network, serving 12 destinations across North America. This, along with their nonstop flights to six North American destinations and nearly 500 weekly flights, ensures strong connectivity for transfer passengers traveling between Asia and North America.
The New Terminal One at JFK is a bold and exciting project that aims to develop a best-in-class international terminal and set a new standard for design and service. The project is expected to be fully completed in 2030, with the first phase, including the new arrivals and departures halls and 14 new gates, set to open in 2026. The New Terminal One consortium, led by Ferrovial, JLC Infrastructure, Ullico, and Carlyle, is committed to local inclusion and labor participation, with a focus on diversity and capacity-building opportunities.
China Airlines, founded in 1959, is one of the 19 carriers that make up the SkyTeam Alliance and provides passengers with access to an extensive global network.
