As the partial government shutdown continues, TSA employees at Syracuse Hancock International Airport are still working without pay. In an effort to support these workers and their families, the airport is hosting a food drive and asking for donations from the public.
When and Where to Donate:
The food drive will take place at Syracuse Hancock International Airport and will run from 8 AM to 4 PM. Signs will be posted to direct donors to the designated drop-off location, where volunteers will be available to assist with unloading donations.
What You Can Donate:
Organizers are seeking non-perishable food items to help support TSA employees and their families during the shutdown. This includes items such as canned goods, dry goods, and other non-perishable items.
Gift Cards Are Also Accepted:
For those who prefer to donate a gift card, these are also welcome. Donors can simply ask a TSA supervisor at the security checkpoint and let them know they would like to donate a gift card.
Dropping Off Donations Outside Drive Hours:
If donors are unable to make it to the airport between 8 AM and 4 PM, there is still an option to donate. Donations can be dropped off at the Security Office on the first floor next to Say Si Bon inside the airport.
Important Deadline:
The final deadline for donations is March 20 at midnight. Please note that cash donations cannot be accepted.
In addition to the food drive, the airport is also accepting donations of gift cards, which can be used to purchase essential items for TSA employees and their families. This provides an opportunity for travelers passing through the airport to contribute, as they can simply ask a TSA supervisor at the security checkpoint to donate a gift card.
It is worth noting that the airport has also set up a deadline for donations, with March 20 at midnight being the final day to donate. Unfortunately, cash donations cannot be accepted at this time.
While the government shutdown has caused many issues and delays for travelers, it has also had a significant impact on TSA employees who are working without pay. In support of these workers, Syracuse Hancock International Airport is doing their part to provide assistance and support during this difficult time.
In other airport news, the US Department of Transportation has released data ranking the punctuality rates of major airports across the country. According to the data, Syracuse Hancock International Airport ranks as one of the top 10 worst airports for spring break delays. This data was analyzed by USA Facts, with the rankings being determined by the percentage of flights arriving within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Travelers can expect delays and longer wait times at this airport during the busy spring break travel season.
However, there is some good news for New York travelers. The state has announced plans to upgrade 16 airports across the Empire State, which will hopefully improve punctuality rates and overall travel experience for passengers.
