Shannon Airport Group Boosts Summer Travel with Increased US Flights
The Shannon Airport Group has announced the return of Delta’s increased direct flights to New York-JFK and United Airlines’ non-stop service to Chicago, providing passengers with a total of five daily US flights during the summer season. These flights will bring in an additional 52,000 seats on the Shannon to JFK route and 44,000 seats on the Shannon to Chicago route, making for a total of over 325,000 transatlantic seats available from Shannon Airport.
Delta’s decision to increase its direct flights from Shannon Airport reflects the airline’s commitment to expanding its global presence and providing increased connectivity between the US and Europe. The Boeing 767-300ER aircraft used for these flights features four distinct cabins, including a Premium Economy cabin and 26 luxurious lie-flat Delta One business class seats.
Mary Considine, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, expressed her excitement about the return of these key routes, stating that Shannon Airport has seen a growth in demand for transatlantic travel. She also mentioned that with five daily nonstop flights to America’s East Coast and Midwest, Shannon Airport remains a top choice for passengers traveling for business or leisure.
Orlaith Lawler, Mid-West Chair of the American Chamber of Commerce, also emphasized the importance of these flights from a business perspective. She highlighted the role of Shannon Airport as a vital gateway for transatlantic travel, trade, and investment, with over 320,000 seats available this summer to three of the US’s most influential cities.
Dermot Kelly, Shannon Branch Chairman of the Irish Hotels Federation, commented on the impact of these flights on the regional and national tourism economy. He stated that the increased connectivity at Shannon Airport will make it easier for US visitors to experience the beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way and other vibrant cities in the region.
In addition to these increased flights, Shannon Airport also offers full US Customs and Border Protection preclearance facilities, making it the first airport in the world, outside of the Americas, to do so. Passengers flying to the US from Shannon are considered domestic travelers upon arrival, and with the recently launched Mobile Pre-Clearance app, they can complete part of the process before even arriving at the airport.
With the combination of increased flights, efficient preclearance facilities, and a convenient mobile app, Shannon Airport is well-equipped to meet the growing demand for transatlantic travel. Passengers can now enjoy a seamless travel experience and explore the many opportunities that the Mid-West region has to offer.
