Qantas’ Sydney International Business Lounge is set to undergo major renovations while its newly revamped Auckland International Lounge prepares to open in December, just in time for the peak holiday season. This is part of the airline’s global lounge refurbishment program and shows a significant investment in providing a premium travel experience for its customers.

The Sydney International Business Lounge will see an increase in seating capacity of over 30% as part of its redevelopment, with work beginning on December 8th and expected to be completed by 2027. This is ahead of Qantas’ Project Sunrise ultra long-haul flights to London and New York.

Cam Wallace, Qantas International CEO, believes these upgrades will meet the growing demand for premium travel and cater to frequent flyers. He states, “As the demand for premium travel increases, we’re creating more space, more dining options, and a completely enhanced on-ground experience in our new Sydney International Business Lounge and Auckland International Lounge.

The new Sydney lounge, designed by Caon Design Office and Akin Atelier, draws inspiration from Sydney’s natural landscape, including the Blue Mountains and Bondi. It will feature a 150sqm outdoor terrace, providing passengers with the opportunity to enjoy fresh air and natural light before their flight. The lounge will also include a show kitchen, signature plated menu options, and a hosted bar serving barista-made coffee and a curated drinks menu. The lounge will have flexible zones, catering to different traveler needs, and enhanced connectivity with USB-C power stations and wireless charging for over 80% of seats.

During the construction period, customers can still relax in a temporary Qantas International Business Lounge at Terminal 1 or the Plaza Premium Lounge, ensuring uninterrupted service.

The newly designed Auckland International Lounge, set to open on December 17th, will offer a new standard for customers traveling across the Tasman, as well as the popular direct Auckland-New York service. The lounge, designed in collaboration with Caon Design Office, Akin Atelier, and Architectus’ New Zealand studio, will celebrate the natural beauty of New Zealand, using materials sourced from local suppliers.

The opening of the Auckland International Lounge coincides with Qantas’ expansion of trans-Tasman operations, including new seasonal services between Adelaide and Auckland and the launch of Auckland to Perth flights on December 7th.

Qantas is also continuing its global lounge investment program, with ongoing upgrades at the Los Angeles International Business Lounge and across its domestic regional lounge network. These upgrades demonstrate Qantas’ commitment to providing a premium travel experience for its customers.
