A TikTok video has gone viral after a woman shared her experience of accidentally trying to board a plane with a pocketknife in her bag. The woman, who goes by Madison on the app, explained that she had received the knife as a gift from her father for protection when she moved to New York alone. However, she was unaware of the knife in her bag and was stopped by TSA during the check-in process.
The incident caught the attention of over 230,000 viewers on TikTok, as Madison shared her story in a one-minute clip. She started by saying, “Good morning everyone, I got pulled over by security at the airport and guess why. Because I had a knife–in my purse. ” She then explained that the TSA agent asked her why he pulled her bag over, to which she responded that she thought it was because of a water bottle. But when the agent found the knife, he calmly told her that she would have to be arrested.
Madison then panicked and told TSA that they could keep the knife as it was just a gift for opening boxes. The agent asked her if she was able to wield the knife and if she was ready to stab someone three times. Madison hesitantly said yes, but mentioned that she didn’t usually feel like a target because of her size. She ended the clip by saying, “It’s 6:30 in the morning FYI. I still can’t believe I did that.
The official TSA website, tsa. gov, has a list of items that are prohibited from being taken through airport security. Surprisingly, there are 494 items on the list, with only 27 being sharp objects. Pocket knives are also listed, with the site stating, “In general, you are prohibited from traveling with sharp objects in your carry-on baggage; please pack these items in your checked baggage.
Many comments have been pouring in on Madison’s video, with viewers sharing their own experiences with TSA. One person said, “I got pulled to the side because I had a bath bomb. I was flying internationally, so imagine – explaining to someone who may not speak English that it’s a bath bomb. ” Another shared, “I did this at 4:30 am – I was not worried about it – they acted like I was smuggling drugs. I told them just throw it away – I need coffee! ” While another commented, “I got pulled over once because I forgot I had chapstick in my pocket.
Madison even received comments from people who have had multiple knives confiscated by TSA because they keep forgetting they have them in their bags. The incident serves as a reminder to always check and double-check your bags before going through airport security to avoid any mishaps.
The Mary Sue reached out to both Madison and TSA for comment on the incident. TSA is known for its constantly changing rules and regulations, such as the recent debate over whether laptops need to be taken out of bags or not.
