John Travolta, a well-known Hollywood actor famous for his roles in films like Pulp Fiction and Saturday Night Fever, is set to star in Renny Harlin’s upcoming movie, Black Tides, marking his return to the big screen after several years of appearing in smaller budget and independent action films.

Produced by Nostromo Pictures, a Spanish TV studio headed by Adrián Guerra and Núria Valls, Black Tides is categorized as an “orca survival thriller.” The story follows Bill Pierce (played by Travolta), an estranged father who sets out to reconnect with his daughter and grandson, only to find themselves in a dangerous situation when their boat is attacked by rogue orcas off the southern coast of Spain.

Director Renny Harlin, known for his work on action films like Cliffhanger and Die Hard 2, as well as horror films like Devil’s Pass and The Strangers: Chapter 1, is excited to work with Travolta. He praises the actor’s ability to bring “grit, depth, vulnerability, and charisma” to his character and is eager to showcase his talents in both the action-packed sequences and emotional drama of the film.

Black Tides is written by Chris Sparling (known for his work on Buried) and Ángel Agudo (known for Apocalypse Z). Production is set to begin at the end of summer, and Harlin plans to use old-school techniques, including in-camera effects and real water work. The film is currently being presented to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival by The Solution Entertainment Group.

Travolta’s last big movie was in 2012 when he starred in Oliver Stone’s Savages. Since then, he has consistently worked in the industry, but his projects have mostly gone straight to streaming platforms. However, producer Adrián Guerra is confident that Travolta is the perfect fit for Black Tides, stating that he brings “history, craft, and instinct” to his character, making him a crucial part of the film.

Born and raised in Englewood, New Jersey, Travolta comes from a family of six children. His father, Salvatore Travolta, was a semi-professional football player turned tire salesman, and his mother, Helen Cecilia, was an actress and singer. Travolta is of Italian and Irish descent and was raised in a predominantly Irish Catholic household. He has been married to actress Kelly Preston since 1991, and the couple has three children together, including Jett, who tragically passed away in 2009.

In addition to his successful acting career, Travolta is also a certified pilot and owns five aircraft. He is a practitioner of Scientology and has been since 1975. He is also known for his philanthropic efforts, including his involvement in disaster relief efforts and his contributions to various charitable organizations.

In Black Tides, Travolta is sure to bring his star power and talent to the screen, making it a must-
