Global Airlines Promises to Bring Back the “Golden Age of Flying” but Faces Criticism from Passengers

Entrepreneur and avid traveler James Asquith recently launched Global Airlines with the promise of reviving the “golden age of flying. ” However, the inaugural flight from Glasgow to New York received heavy criticism from passengers and currently, no other flights are scheduled. In response, James and the team at Global Airlines took to LinkedIn to address the criticism and clarify any misinformation about their brand’s future.

In a lengthy statement, they acknowledged the noise and speculation surrounding their first passenger flights and thanked everyone for their interest and support. They also acknowledged that there has been a lot of misinformation spread online, which can be misleading for readers. The team apologized for generating so much interest and speculation and reminded everyone not to believe everything they see, hear, and read.

Despite the criticism, Global Airlines remains focused on their ultimate goal of becoming a scheduled airline in the future. However, they recognize that there are still many challenges to overcome in their journey. One of the main criticisms of their inaugural flight was the significantly higher ticket prices compared to other airlines. An economy return ticket cost £778, while first-class tickets were priced at £7,127 and business class at £3,700.

Another criticism was the lack of passengers on the flight, with many empty seats. However, the team at Global Airlines clarified that their flights were never intended to be full as they wanted to focus on testing their service and products, specifically their premium cabins. They also explained that they did not do any marketing for the flights and simply reached out to their online community and the wider aviation circles.

The onboard experience also received mixed reactions from travel experts, with some criticizing the cabins, lack of entertainment system, and food. James and the team admitted that their first flight was a challenge, but defended the experience by explaining that the plane had undergone significant maintenance and regulatory checks after being brought back from the desert. They apologize to any passengers who did not have a pleasant experience but share that many other passengers had an amazing time.

Global Airlines also clarified that their future is still very much in the skies and they have no plans to change their strategy to become an ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) operator. They confirm that ACMI has always been part of their discussions with Hi Fly, but their direction of travel and ambitious vision for the future remains the same.

The airline faces challenges as other carriers, such as Norwegian, Wow Air, and Primera Air, have failed to make transatlantic flights successful. In a previous interview, James explained that Global Airlines is being funded by a combination of Holiday Swap Group and external investors. They originally planned to have 15 to 20 planes over the next two years and expand aggressively from there.

Despite the criticism, Global Airlines remains determined to fulfill their promise of bringing back the “golden age of flying” and providing a premium, luxurious experience for their passengers.
