Passengers traveling through Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport may experience longer wait times at TSA checkpoints this summer. According to a study conducted by analysts at CSDB. gg, Fort Lauderdale’s main airport has the longest average wait time of 15 minutes and 27 seconds. This is followed by Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport with wait times of 15 minutes and 6 seconds and 14 minutes and 29 seconds, respectively.
The study analyzed TSA wait times at America’s 31 busiest airport hubs, which have more than 10 million passengers annually. It identified the average delay at security checkpoints and peak congestion times. The researchers found a significant difference between the worst-performing airports and those with a smoother experience. They believe this is due to effective organization and infrastructure management.
Passengers should consider these rankings when booking flights, as a calm airport experience is a top priority for many travelers. San Diego International Airport and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport were ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. This was followed by Harry Reid International Airport, Austin–Bergstrom International Airport, Salt Lake City International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, and Baltimore/Washington International Airport.
At Baltimore/Washington International Airport, the average wait time is 10 minutes and 31 seconds. However, this can increase significantly to 12 minutes and 58 seconds on Sundays, the airport’s busiest day. The longest delays typically occur at 8 p. m. , with an average wait time of 17 minutes and 26 seconds. On the other hand, there is little to no wait time between midnight and 2 a. m.
In contrast, Chicago O’Hare International Airport has the shortest average wait time among the 31 airports surveyed, making it last on the list for delays. This information is crucial for travelers as airports prepare for the summer vacation season.
