San Diego International Airport’s dining options are getting a major upgrade with the ongoing $4 billion renovation project of Terminal 1. The new terminal will feature a variety of local restaurants, cafes, fast food chains, and specialty stores, showcasing the city’s diverse culinary scene.
Opening in September:
1. Ambrogio15: This Italian eatery is bringing its signature Milanese-style pizza to the airport. With locations in Pacific Beach and Del Mar, Ambrogio15 offers a menu of oven-baked pastas, salads, and Italian dessert pizza. Their pizza is made with imported organic flour and a 48-hour rising process, resulting in a paper-thin crust. Ambrogio15 also offers gluten-free, whole wheat, and white crust options.
2. Better Buzz: This local coffee chain, which originated in Pacific Beach in 2002, will be serving up their famous flavored blended iced coffee, lattes, espressos, teas, and smoothies at the airport. They also offer a variety of açaí bowls, sandwiches, and wraps.
3. Cutwater Spirits: San Diego-based alcoholic beverage maker Cutwater Spirits will have a bar in Terminal 1, serving up their own tequila, rum, vodka, whiskey, and gin. They also offer canned cocktails, such as palomas, margaritas, mai tais, and vodka mules. Their tasting room and kitchen in Miramar serves a mix of burgers, salads, flatbreads, and sandwiches.
4. J. T. Bros. : This sandwich spot, founded by Chef Alex Trujillo, will be offering a diverse lineup of sandwiches, salads, and wraps in Terminal 1. Their menu includes options such as bánh mì, cubano, cheesesteak, chipotle veggie patty melt, reuben, and wagyu meatball sub.
5. Lofty Coffee: This local coffee shop will be serving up their locally roasted coffee and baked goods at the airport. Their menu includes cold brew coffee, cappuccinos, espressos, lattes, and teas, as well as banana nut bread, croissants, cookies, donuts, muffins, and scones.
6. Luna Grill: For those craving Mediterranean-style food, Luna Grill has a variety of options, including kabobs, pitas, salads, and plates with a choice of chicken, beef, lamb, shrimp, salmon, and falafel. They also offer sides such as chickpea salad, Greek salad, white rice, and fries.
7. Market Hall: This grab-and-go spot will offer pre-made breakfast and lunch items, such as breakfast burritos, bacon and egg sandwiches, Philly cheesesteak paninis, tuna melts, Asian chicken salads, quinoa bowls, and Cuban sandwiches. They also serve a variety of teas and espresso drinks.
