As the busy fall and holiday travel season approaches, major airlines are making changes to their schedules including adding new routes and canceling others. This can have a significant impact on travelers.
Delta Airlines recently announced that it will be discontinuing seven routes. These include flights from St. Paul, Minneapolis to Albuquerque, Buffalo, Fairbanks, and Great Falls. The airline is also cutting routes from Salt Lake City to Toronto and from Atlanta to Fresno. However, Delta is also expanding its services from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. New routes will be added to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Memphis International Airport, and St. Louis Lambert International Airport, starting on September 8. Additionally, the airline has extended its routes from New York’s LaGuardia Airport, allowing travelers to continue enjoying daily flight service to Panama City Beach’s Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport until November 6. Delta is also adding new services from Salt Lake City to Little Rock, Arkansas, and from Austin to Palm Springs, California. Another expansion includes flights from Westchester County Airport to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
In a surprising move, United Airlines has unexpectedly canceled flights from Texas to Cuba, starting on September 2. Customers are no longer able to book flights between Havana and Houston beyond September 1. This suspension will last throughout the winter season. A spokesperson for United stated that they regularly adjust their flight schedules based on factors such as seasonality and demand.
In addition to these changes, American Airlines has announced a new bus route connecting Trenton to Philadelphia International Airport. This service will begin on September 22 and will run three times a day in each direction. Passengers taking this shuttle will undergo TSA screening beforehand, eliminating the need to go through security again at the Philadelphia airport.
Air India has also made changes to its routes, suspending services between Washington DC and New Delhi starting on September 1. This decision comes as the airline continues to address the aftermath of a fatal crash in June. Passengers will be affected until at least the end of 2026.
Lastly, Alaska Airlines has announced its first transatlantic route from Seattle, Washington, to London Heathrow. The daily flight is expected to start in the springtime and will take approximately nine and a half hours.
As airlines make changes to their schedules, it is important for travelers to stay informed and plan accordingly. These adjustments may affect the way people travel, and it is recommended to check with individual airlines for specific route changes and updates.
