Budget Airline Cancels Flights to Major American City Due to Fuel Crisis
The budget airline Norse Atlantic has announced the suspension of all flights from London Gatwick to Los Angeles, which were introduced in June 2023. The decision comes as a result of the ongoing fuel crisis caused by the Iran war.
Impact on Travelers
The cancellation of the flights will have a significant impact on British travelers, as well as those from Italy and France. The airline has also axed its routes from Rome and Paris to Los Angeles. This means that Norse Atlantic will only have four long-haul routes this summer, including London Gatwick to New York and London Gatwick to Orlando.
Reason for Cancellation
According to Travel Gossip, a spokesperson for the airline stated that the decision was made due to the continued increase in fuel constraint risks and prices, which have resulted in higher operating costs. The airline believes that this is the responsible choice in order to maintain a sustainable airline for passengers and colleagues.
Affected Customers
Norse Atlantic has assured that all affected customers will be notified proactively and given alternative options. The spokesperson also apologized for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation of the flights.
Other Airlines Affected
Norse Atlantic is not the only airline to have been affected by the fuel crisis. KLM has announced the cancellation of 160 flights across Europe in the next month, including services to and from London. Lufthansa’s subsidiary airline CityLine will also cease operations due to the Iran war and ongoing strike action. British Airways has permanently cut its route between London Heathrow and Jeddah, and UK travel company Skybus has gone bankrupt, leading to the cancellation of all future flights between London Gatwick and Newquay.
What to Expect
Travelers planning to fly this summer should expect potential flight cancellations and increased fare prices due to the fuel crisis. It is advised to regularly check with the airline for any updates or changes to flight schedules.
