British Airways Announces Significant Expansion to Winter 2026 Network

British Airways has recently revealed plans to increase its long-haul flying by nine percent for winter 2026. This expansion includes the addition of two new destinations, Melbourne in Australia and Colombo in Sri Lanka, and increased service from key U. S. cities and popular leisure destinations in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean.

Increased Service from the United States

In response to customer demand, British Airways will be increasing flights from major U. S. cities. Baltimore will now have a daily service to London Heathrow during winter 2026, in addition to its existing daily summer service. New Orleans will also see an increase to four flights per week to London Heathrow, while Houston will have 12 flights per week. These additional flights will provide more flexibility for customers traveling between the U. S. , London, and British Airways’ global network.

New Destinations

British Airways will be adding two new destinations to its winter 2026 schedule. Melbourne, Australia will be introduced on January 9, 2027, just in time for the Australian Open and Melbourne Grand Prix. Flights will operate year-round from London Heathrow via Kuala Lumpur on a daily basis. Customers will have the option of four cabins – World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), Club World (business class), and First.

Another new destination for winter 2026 is Colombo, Sri Lanka. Starting on October 23, 2026, British Airways will fly three times per week from London Gatwick to this vibrant gateway to Sri Lanka. This route will only operate for the winter season and will offer customers a choice of three cabins – World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), and Club World (business class).

Frequency Growth

In addition to new destinations, British Airways will be increasing frequencies on several popular routes. In the Caribbean, a new daily service will be introduced from Barbados to London Gatwick, providing onward tag flights to Grenada, Guyana, and Tobago. The airline’s St. Lucia service will also become daily non-stop to London Gatwick, offering more travel options to and from the Caribbean.

Other schedule changes include a third daily flight from London Heathrow to Cape Town, South Africa in December, and a double daily service from London Heathrow to Haneda in Tokyo, Japan throughout the winter schedule. San José in Costa Rica will also increase to five flights per week and move to London Heathrow, while Kingston in Jamaica and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic will both have four flights per week from London Gatwick. Customers traveling to Delhi will continue to have three flights per day as the frequency growth introduced at the start of the summer season remains in place. Additionally, the planned winter schedule will include daily flights from London Heathrow to Abu Dhabi starting on October 25.
