British Airways Expands Transatlantic Network with New Route to St.
British Airways has announced the addition of a new direct flight from London Heathrow to St. Louis, Missouri, expanding its transatlantic network. The new service will operate four times a week and is scheduled to launch on April 19, 2026, covering a distance of 4,200 miles (6. 720km). This route will be available throughout the peak northern European summer season.
British Airways will be the only UK airline to offer direct flights to St. Louis, a city known for its rich history, culture, and character. In the past, the route was only served by the now-defunct TWA from London-Gatwick Airport (LGW) on a daily basis during the 1980s and 1990s. The airline will offer three classes of travel on this route, including business class, premium economy, and economy.
According to the flight timings published by the carrier, the outbound flight (BA221) will depart London-Heathrow (LHR) at 16:25 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving at St Louis-Lambert International Airport (STL) at 19:30 local time. The return leg (BA220) will leave the US city at 22:00 and arrive back at Heathrow at 12:05 local time.
The launch of this route coincides with the 100th anniversary of Route 66, the famous highway that starts in Chicago, goes through St. Louis, and ends in Los Angeles. St. Louis’ stretch of this iconic route, also known as the ‘Mother Road’, is full of Americana charm, including vintage diners, neon signs, historic motels, and roadside attractions, making it the perfect starting point for a classic US road trip experience, as stated in a British Airways statement.
The city offers a variety of attractions to travelers, including its iconic Gateway Arch, vibrant neighborhoods, expansive green spaces, and thriving food and music scenes. Additionally, St. Louis is home to Forest Park, one of the largest urban parks in the US, and a range of free museums. It also boasts a thriving craft beer scene and a proud sporting legacy, with teams like the St. Louis Cardinals (Major League Baseball), Blues (National Hockey League), and City Soccer Club (Major League Soccer), earning the title of ‘Ultimate Sports City’ by ESPN The Magazine.
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, expressed his excitement for the addition of St. Louis to the airline’s US network, stating that the city is a fantastic destination in itself with its rich history and vibrant cultural scene. He also mentioned that this new route will open up new opportunities for customers and strengthen the ties between the UK and the US Midwest. St.
