American Airlines, one of the most popular air services in the US, has recently announced a new route connecting Charlotte, North Carolina to Athens, Greece. The airline will be using a Boeing 777-200 plane to operate this route, with one flight departing from Charlotte (CLT) daily at 12 pm (*subject to change). This new addition brings the total number of American Airlines flights from the US to Athens to four per day.

American Airlines is known as one of the leading global airlines, offering thousands of flights daily to over 350 destinations. This new route is part of the airline’s efforts to expand its European presence, as reported by Money-Tourism. gr.

José A. Freig, American Airlines Vice President of International and Inflight Dining Operations, stated to Money-Tourism. gr, “Throughout the summer, U. S. travelers are increasingly seeking out European destinations that offer cultural, culinary, or adventurous experiences. Athens continues to be a key destination in our network, and we are excited to add Charlotte to the growing list of cities connected to our Greek operations. ” He also added that this route will provide customers in Greece with access to over 145 US destinations through Charlotte.

The Director of Communications and Marketing at Athens International Airport, Ioanna Papadopoulou, also expressed her excitement about the new route, stating, “The launch of the daily direct connection between Athens and Charlotte, an exciting destination in the southeastern part of the U. S. , is an excellent development. ” She also mentioned that the US market has been showing significant growth in Athens and is one of the most important and popular markets for the airport.

In addition to the new route to Charlotte, American Airlines has also expanded its international connections to Greece by adding more routes to Madrid (MAD), Rome (FCO), Venice (VCE), and Milan (MXP). The airline also has plans to reintroduce flights to Copenhagen (CPH), Nice (NCE), and Naples (NAP) for the 2025 summer season.
