American Airlines has recently announced the addition of summer salads to their first-class inflight meal menu. These fresh and appetizing salads are now available on all domestic and short-haul flights, joining the new European-inspired dining menu that began on June 11th.
The Summer Salad Options
The announcement of these new salads was made through an Instagram post, which listed the four salad options available for first-class passengers. The pasta salad includes pasta, pomegranate, cilantro, Parmesan cheese, rocket, and tomatoes. The Moroccan bowl contains couscous, chickpeas, fresh and dried fruits, roasted almonds, and avocado. The lemon orzo salad features orzo, pine nuts, rocket, red and yellow cherry tomatoes, Parmesan, and salted olives. Lastly, the Buddha bowl offers pulse sprouts, peas, corn, broccoli, tomato, cucumber, and sweet potato. Each salad comes with a pour-on sauce pot and is presented as a light joke, promising a “princess-like treatment” for first-class passengers.
Positive Feedback
The response to this announcement has been mostly positive, with customers who have had the chance to sample the salads giving their impressions. One customer described them as “super fresh and flavorful” while another praised the Moroccan bowl as “so good”. However, it is unclear how long these salads will be available, as the menu is likely to change in a few months.
Replacing the Old Menu
Before the introduction of these summer salads, customers could enjoy a main salad, a smaller salad, and a side of bundt cake on first-class flights. The previous menu also included items like olives, dried apricots, beef jerky, pistachios, white cheddar dip, pita chips, brownie brittle, and more. However, the new salads seem to have replaced the main salad option.
New European-Inspired Menu
In addition to the summer salads, American Airlines has also introduced a new European-inspired menu for their summer routes to popular destinations like Venice, Naples, and Edinburgh. The dishes on this menu are inspired by the destination of the flight, such as rustic yet refined ratatouille for flights to Provence, France, and mustard-crusted lamb for flights to Dublin, Ireland. These menu items are only available to customers in Flagship Business, Flagship Suite Preferred, and Flagship Suite seats on specific European routes.
Wider Menu Update for Economy Customers
Economy customers can also look forward to a wider menu update, including a new midday snack basket and a refreshed selection of buy-on-board items. The airline is also testing afternoon tea service on flights departing from London and Paris. Additionally, American Airlines has extended the deadline for customers to make or edit meal preorders, giving them more flexibility and time to make their selection.
