An American Airlines flight bound for New York City was forced to turn back to Los Angeles on Tuesday due to a reported odor in the cabin. The flight, American Airlines flight 274, departed from Los Angeles International Airport just before 5 p. m. local time and was headed to John F. Kennedy International Airport.

According to flight tracking website FlightAware, the pilots decided to turn back to Los Angeles shortly after takeoff due to reports of an odor in the cabin. The pilots also reported smelling and tasting something unusual, prompting them to put on oxygen masks in the cockpit, as reported by WABC-TV.

Upon landing back at LAX, the seven passengers on board were evaluated, but no one required further medical treatment. American Airlines stated that the aircraft was taken out of service for inspection by their maintenance team.

The airline expressed their apologies for the inconvenience caused to their customers and stated that they never want to disrupt travel plans. However, the safety of their passengers is their top priority.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was not available for comment at the time of this report.

The current government shutdown has been causing delays and disruptions at airports across the country. Despite not being paid, 13,000 air traffic controllers and 50,000 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers are still required to work. They are set to receive a partial paycheck this week for work done before the shutdown began.

In a separate incident, weeks ago, an American Airlines flight departing from LAX to Boston had to abort takeoff due to another aircraft on the runway. The flight, operated on an Airbus 321, had 94 customers and seven crew members on board. The flight was able to depart later in the evening.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported a potential dangerous situation at LAX when AeroLogic Flight 619 crossed a runway without authorization.

Air travel can be unpredictable, and it is essential for airlines to prioritize the safety and well-being of their passengers. American Airlines has stated that they are working diligently to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience for all their customers.
