Spirit Airlines announced that it will no longer offer service from St. Louis Lambert International Airport starting January 8th. This decision is part of the airline’s effort to reposition itself for the future and focus on its strongest performing markets. As a result, service to Milwaukee, Phoenix, and Rochester, New York will also be discontinued. Additionally, seasonal service to Bucaramanga, Colombia will end on January 13th.

The Florida-based airline stated that the decision was made in line with their smaller operating fleet and strategic focus. Spirit currently operates two flights per week from Lambert to Ft. Lauderdale, but it used to offer more destinations in the past. In a statement, the airline apologized to its customers for any inconvenience and assured them that they will be contacted regarding their travel plans and options, including a refund.

Spirit also expressed its gratitude to its partners and customers in the affected communities for their support over the years. The airline has not yet announced any plans for future destinations or changes to its current schedule.

This decision by Spirit Airlines is not unique, as many airlines have been adjusting their services and routes in response to the ongoing pandemic and its impact on the travel industry. However, the discontinuation of service from St. Louis may come as a disappointment to some travelers, especially those who frequently fly with Spirit.

For now, Spirit Airlines will continue to operate flights from St. Louis to Ft. Lauderdale, but it remains to be seen if they will consider adding new destinations in the future. Customers with affected travel plans are advised to stay in touch with the airline for updates and to explore alternative options. With the continued uncertainty in the travel industry, it is likely that we may see more changes and adjustments from airlines in the coming months.
