Asiana Airlines Achieves Record Revenue in First Quarter
Asiana Airlines announced on May 14 that it has recorded a revenue of 1.743 trillion won in the first quarter of this year, representing a 6.7% increase from the same period last year. This marks the highest first-quarter revenue in the company’s history, attributed to strong performances in both passenger and cargo businesses.
Passenger Business Performance
The company’s revenue from the passenger business saw a 6.1% year-on-year increase, reaching 1.2017 trillion won. Asiana Airlines proactively increased flights to meet holiday demand, including the Lunar New Year, which contributed to this growth.
Cargo Business Growth
The cargo business also saw growth, with a 5.2% increase to 370.9 billion won. This is credited to the expansion of the cargo fleet and an increase in advance shipments due to the U.S. government’s announcement of potential tariff increases.
Improving Operating Performance
The operating loss decreased by 23.3 billion won compared to the same period last year, reaching 7.9 billion won. Asiana Airlines cited increased maintenance costs for safe operations and rising fuel costs due to exchange rate fluctuations as reasons for the deficit. However, the company has made efforts to reduce the deficit through various synergy activities and cost-cutting measures.
