Winter weather is causing major disruptions for flights across North America, with several airlines experiencing cancellations and delays. Just recently, WestJet had to increase flight cancellations after Calgary International Airport suspended all flights due to a snowstorm. Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines in the U. S. has also been dealing with similar circumstances. Last Sunday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop for Delta’s New York hubs, LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International Airport, due to snow and ice.

As a result of a cold front approaching Boston and New York, Delta Air Lines has issued a travel advisory for affected travelers, warning of potential flight disruptions. The airline has also provided details on which specific hubs are likely to face the most difficulties.

Delta Air Lines has added advisories to its major Northeastern hubs, including Boston and New York, due to the forecasted weather conditions. In Boston, wind gusts of up to 60 mph and heavy rain are expected, while New York may experience thunderstorms and coastal flooding. The airline has advised travelers to check their flight status frequently and has offered options for rebooking or receiving updates on their mobile devices or via email.

The affected airports include Boston, MA (BOS), New York, NY (JFK), New York, NY (LGA), Newark, NJ (EWR), and White Plains, NY (HPN). Delta has stated that tickets must be reissued by December 22, 2025, for travel on December 19 and must be booked before December 22. The airline will waive the fare difference for rebooked flights in the same cabin of service as the original flight.

Currently, the major Northeastern hubs have already seen an increase in cancellations for Friday’s flights. Boston Logan International Airport and LaGuardia Airport have already reported hundreds of cancelled flights, with numbers expected to change throughout the day. Logan International Airport has the most cancelled flights worldwide, with 105 cancellations for both departures and arrivals, along with numerous delays. LaGuardia Airport is currently second, with 44 cancellations for departures and 46 for arrivals. John F. Kennedy International Airport is third, with 32 cancellations, while Newark Liberty International Airport has 17 cancellations and 59 delays.

Delta Air Lines, which has faced disruptions throughout the week, saw fewer cancellations on Wednesday. However, with more flights scheduled for Friday and the weekend, the airline is experiencing an increase in delays and cancellations due to the weather. On Thursday, Delta had 795 delays and 21 cancellations, with Southwest Airlines and American Airlines reporting more delays. JetBlue currently has the most cancelled flights for Friday, followed by Delta-owned Endeavor Air.

As of now, Delta Air Lines has announced 23 cancellations and 125 delays for Friday, while Southwest Airlines has the most delays among U. S. airlines with 287.
