Abra Group, the parent company of Avianca, Colombia’s leading domestic airline, and Gol Airlines, Brazil’s largest carrier, has announced its plans to join the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The group has filed a Form F-1, with the aim of raising hundreds of millions of dollars through an initial public offering (IPO). This move is part of a larger strategy to expand its operations throughout Colombia and Latin America.
Abra Group, a holding company established in May 2022 and registered in England and Wales, has set its sights on becoming the top air transport group in Latin America. Manuel Irarrázaval, the group’s Chief Financial Officer, explained in an interview with El Tiempo that listing on a stock exchange and conducting an IPO is necessary for a company of its size to access deeper and more competitive markets.
The decision to list on the NYSE was made due to the size and investment capacity of the U. S. market. Irarrázaval stated that the goal is to raise over US$300 million, which will be used to finance investments and reduce the holding’s debt. He also noted that the NYSE is the most liquid and visible market in the world, providing access to a wider range of institutional and retail investors.
Joining the NYSE is part of Abra Group’s expansion strategy, which also includes increasing its current fleet. The group has reportedly placed orders for 50 Airbus A320neo, 96 Boeing 737 MAX, and up to seven Airbus A330neo for long-haul routes, with deliveries scheduled until 2030. Additionally, they have requested five Airbus A350-900, bringing the total number of new aircraft to 234.
CEO of Abra Group, Adrian Neuhauser, stated that this announcement reaffirms their commitment to providing more access to air travel for millions of people. The group aims to be listed on the NYSE by 2026.
Avianca was previously listed on the NYSE under the ticker symbol AVH, but it was delisted in 2020 following its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and suspension of trading. With the Abra Group’s listing, Avianca will have the opportunity to significantly expand its current operations. As of late 2025, the airline operates over 160 air routes, connecting 82 destinations in 27 countries across the Americas and Europe.
