Qatar Airways, one of the leading airlines in the world, has announced that it will be moving its operations to the new Terminal One at New York JFK in 2026. This move will also mark the debut of the airline’s first dedicated lounge in the United States.
Since 2018, Qatar Airways has been operating from JFK’s Terminal 8. However, with the completion of the new US$9. 5 billion terminal, the airline will join several other international carriers in relocating. These include Air New Zealand, Air France-KLM, Air China, Air Serbia, China Airlines, Etihad, EVA Air, Gulf Air, Korean Air, Neos, LOT Polish Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, SAS, Philippine Airlines, and Turkish Airlines.
The new terminal is currently under construction, with a phased completion set for 2030. In 2026, passengers can expect to see new arrivals and departures halls, as well as 14 new gates. This move is expected to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.
Moreover, Qatar Airways will also be opening its first lounge in the United States at the new terminal. Spanning over 1,394 square meters, the lounge will offer VIP check-in services, direct access to the boarding gate, premium food and beverage options, relaxation zones, prayer rooms, children’s play areas, and duty-free shopping for the airline’s business class passengers.
According to the airline’s group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, this move reflects Qatar Airways’ commitment to connecting global travelers to New York and expanding their services in this important destination in the US. The airline currently operates 18 weekly flights from New York JFK to 11 destinations in the US.
New Terminal One CEO, Jennifer Aument, also expressed her excitement about the partnership with Qatar Airways, stating that it reaffirms the strong value the new terminal offers to international carriers seeking to expand their presence in New York.
Upon its completion in 2030, the new terminal will be the largest at JFK, covering 2. 3 million square feet and featuring a total of 23 gates. This new terminal is part of a US$19 billion transformation of JFK airport, which includes the construction of two new terminals, the modernization and expansion of two existing terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a new simplified roadway network.
In addition to the new terminal, JFK airport has also announced plans for a refresh of its Terminal 5 earlier this year. This will include a redesigned center concourse and the addition of 40 new concessions. This refresh is expected to further enhance the travel experience for passengers at JFK airport.
In conclusion, Qatar Airways’ move to the new Terminal One at New York JFK in 2026 is a testament to the airline’s commitment to providing exceptional services to its passengers.
