Boutique Airline for Dogs Offers Luxury Travel Experience

August 18, 2025

Are you a dog owner who loves to travel but dreads leaving your furry friend behind? Look no further, Bark Air is here to provide a comfortable and personalized flying experience for you and your canine companion.

Bark Air is a boutique airline exclusively for dogs, offering luxury travel options for dogs of any size or breed. The company’s mission is to prioritize the needs and well-being of dogs during travel, making it a dog-first approach rather than just pet-friendly.

Booking Your Flight
The booking process for Bark Air is unique and tailored to each dog’s personality, temperament, and health needs. During the onboarding call, which takes place a few weeks before the flight, dog owners are asked about their dog’s favorite treats, music preferences, and even how they prefer to ride in the car. This personalized approach ensures that each dog has a comfortable and stress-free flight.

Arrival and Check-In
Passengers are encouraged to arrive at the Bark Air lounge, located at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, just 45 minutes before departure. This private airport is conveniently located 13 miles from New York City. The check-in process includes a brief security check and allows passengers to check a 50-pound suitcase and a duffle bag. It is recommended to bring a small personal item on board for essentials. However, crates are not allowed in the cabin.

On-Board Experience
Bark Air offers a semi-private flying experience, with expedited in-lounge security checks and a boarding process that begins only 45 minutes before departure. The airline operates public charter flights on Canadair CL-600 Challenger, Bombardier Global 6000, and Gulfstream Aerospace G-IV aircrafts. Each flight is limited to a specific number of passengers and dogs, depending on the size of the dogs.

The cabin is equipped with amenities to ensure a comfortable and stress-free flight for dogs, including calming aids, pheromones, and ambient lighting. Humans are also treated to a full bar and a menu that includes hot and cold dishes. However, the main focus is on the dogs, with a variety of treats and “Doggie Chompagne” served during the flight.

Routes and Services
Bark Air currently offers flights to popular destinations such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, London, Paris, and Lisbon. The company also offers private and shared charter options, allowing pet owners to choose their own destinations as long as a minimum number of seats are booked.

In addition to flights, Bark Air now offers a Companion Concierge service to assist pet owners with the logistics of international or domestic dog travel. This service includes help with paperwork, vet appointments, and transportation arrangements. It is available to anyone traveling with a pet, not just those flying with Bark Air.

Vaccinations and Restrictions
