Westchester County Airport to Receive $15 Million for Upgrades and Modernization Efforts

The Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program and Airport Infrastructure Grant Program has awarded a $66. 7 million package to 22 airports across New York State. This announcement was made by US Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Among the airports receiving funding is Westchester County Airport, a key travel hub for the Hudson Valley and New York City suburbs. The airport will receive $12. 29 million for runway expansion and an additional $2. 76 million for taxiway and runway construction.

According to Schumer, these upgrades will not only enhance safety, but also improve efficiency for travelers. He emphasized the importance of New York’s airports as gateways for commerce and tourism, as well as vital connectors for residents and visitors. The funding will allow the airport to invest in key safety upgrades and modernization efforts.

Gillibrand, who played a crucial role in securing the funding, stated that these investments will modernize airport infrastructure and improve the overall passenger experience.

Out of the statewide package, the funding allocated for Westchester County Airport is one of the largest. Other airports receiving significant funding include Syracuse Hancock International Airport with over $13 million and Watertown International Airport with over $7 million.

This funding will not only benefit Westchester County Airport, but also contribute to the growth and development of the entire region. As a major transportation hub, the upgrades and modernization efforts at the airport will have a positive impact on the local economy and tourism industry.

With this latest round of funding, the airport will be able to make necessary improvements to its infrastructure, ensuring a safer and more efficient experience for all travelers. This is a positive step towards further enhancing the reputation of Westchester County Airport as a top-notch travel destination.
