United Airlines Suspends Flight Attendants Protesting for New Contract

United Airlines, one of the world’s largest airline carriers, recently held an event in New York City to celebrate its new premium cabin offering. However, the event took a turn when several flight attendants staged a protest demanding a new contract. This has been an ongoing issue, with flight attendants calling for a new contract for quite some time now.

Demand for a New Contract

United Airlines’ flight attendants have been pushing for a new contract for nearly four years now. Last year, they protested at the airline’s major hubs in response to the issue. While there has been some progress in negotiations earlier this year, the recent protest shows that there is still a long way to go.

The Protest

On May 13, United Airlines invited media to an event in New York City to showcase its new Polaris business class product. During the event, several flight attendants, reportedly about a dozen, took to the stage before the airline’s executive could speak. They were protesting for a new contract and revised pay, shouting phrases like “If we don’t get it, shut it down” and “What do we want? A contract. When do we want it? Now!”

The protest lasted for about a minute before security officials escorted the flight attendants out of the venue. There have been reports that the protesting flight attendants have been suspended until further inquiry. It remains to be seen what action United Airlines will take in
