Spirit Airlines, in partnership with regional carrier Contour Airlines, will soon be offering flights to Middle Georgia Regional Airport (MCN) in Macon, Georgia. This new route will be the first destination under the collaboration between the two airlines.
Starting October 16th, Spirit will operate twice-weekly flights between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and MCN on their Airbus A320-family aircraft. To celebrate the new route, the airline is offering introductory airfares starting at $49. 99 one-way. In addition to flight services, Contour will also handle ground services for Spirit at MCN.
Contour Airlines currently operates two daily flights from Dulles International Airport (IAD) near Washington, D. C. to MCN, which is subsidized by the U. S. Department of Transportation’s Essential Air Service program. This new route will make MCN the third city in Georgia to be served by Spirit, joining the ranks of Atlanta and Savannah.
The partnership between Spirit and Contour was announced in May as a way to expand air connectivity to underserved communities across the country. In addition to the MCN-FLL route, Spirit plans to add flights to Contour’s EAS markets from major leisure destinations. Contour, on the other hand, will provide ground services and cross-market the new flights.
This partnership is a significant milestone for Spirit, as it is their first collaboration since emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March. Through the restructuring process, the airline was able to reduce its debt and fleet size, following its unsuccessful attempt to merge with JetBlue.
As a result of the restructuring, Spirit is now a much smaller airline, with nearly 20% fewer seats flown in the first six months of 2025 compared to last year. On the other hand, Contour currently serves 23 EAS and small communities across the U. S. , including MCN, Barkley Regional Airport (PAH) in Paducah, Kentucky, Canyonlands Regional Airport (CNY) in Moab, Utah, and Shenandoah Valley Airport (SHD) in Weyers Cave, Virginia.
It is worth noting that while the partnership between Spirit and Contour will offer more flight options to travelers, it does not include any collaboration with Spirit’s loyalty program, Free Spirit.
As we eagerly await the launch of this new route, it is clear that the collaboration between Spirit and Contour will not only benefit the two airlines but also provide better air connectivity to underserved communities across the country.
