Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has recently entered into a strategic cargo partnership with Air France-KLM, marking a significant milestone in the national carrier’s efforts to expand its global freight reach. This partnership, which took effect on January 15, allows PIA Cargo to tap into the extensive global network of Air France-KLM, providing exporters with the convenience of shipping goods across Europe and the United States using a single air waybill that covers both airline systems.

As part of this partnership, PIA Cargo will have access to key regional hubs such as Dubai, Riyadh, and Dammam, connecting to major destinations including Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. This development comes on the heels of the recent resumption of direct flights between Islamabad and Paris, which have been operating twice a week since January 10. This not only strengthens air links between Pakistan and Europe, but also serves to facilitate trade, logistics, and business connectivity.

The expansion of PIA’s cargo network also coincides with the completion of the airline’s privatization process, with the Arif Habib Consortium acquiring a 75 percent stake in the company through a competitive bidding process. This move has been hailed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as a significant milestone that is expected to improve service standards and restore PIA’s global standing.

This new partnership, along with the renewed European routes and private-sector management, marks a new phase for PIA as it aims to support Pakistan’s trade and travel links with key international markets.
