Munich Airport Celebrates Oktoberfest with Traditional Costume Flights and Festive Offers
Munich Airport kicked off its annual Oktoberfest festivities today with a special event featuring Bavaria’s Minister of State for Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Tourism, the CEO of Munich Airport, and the hub manager of Lufthansa. The celebration, marking the 190th Oktoberfest, included traditional costume groups from the Isargau Trachtenverband and Lufthansa’s renowned traditional costume crew, setting the mood for the upcoming festivities.
This year, Lufthansa’s traditional costume crew will fly to Shanghai on September 20, followed by Seoul on September 29. As in previous years, there will also be traditional costume flights to select European destinations. The tradition of these flights began in 2006, when the first crew in Bavarian attire took off from Munich to New York. Since then, they have served over 30 destinations worldwide, bringing back an idea that was first introduced in 1957.
During Oktoberfest, Lufthansa will offer Bavarian specialties in business class and similar delicacies will be available in the Lufthansa lounges at Terminal 2. This year, Munich Airport expects over 16,000 take-offs and landings, with approximately 2. 3 million passengers during the 16-day span of Oktoberfest. This marks a 4% increase in passengers compared to the same period last year.
To welcome guests arriving at Terminal 2, Munich Airport will offer traditional gingerbread hearts and roasted almonds. Traditional costume groups will also perform in the public area and behind security checkpoints on selected days. Additionally, pop-up stores from “Trachtendealer” and “Bavarian Caps” will open, offering special deals for the festive season.
For those looking to continue the Oktoberfest celebrations, Airbräu invites visitors to join in on the weekends with live music and the 20th tapping of the festival beer ‘Gaudium’ starting on September 20. With these exciting events and offers, Munich Airport is the perfect place to experience the spirit of Oktoberfest, both on the ground and in the air.
