Malta International Airport has announced its flight schedule for the upcoming summer season of 2026, with a focus on enhancing the island’s connectivity with key European markets and the United States. A notable addition to the schedule is Delta Air Lines’ direct flights between Malta and New York City, making it the first American carrier to offer this route.

Northern Europe will also see an increase in connections, with Norwegian Air Shuttle adding a new route to Billund and increasing the frequency of its flights to Oslo and Helsinki during the summer months. Ryanair will also be extending its direct flights to Gothenburg into the summer schedule.

In the Mediterranean region, airBaltic will double the frequency of its flights between Malta and Tallinn, while Ryanair and Wizz Air will continue to expand routes to Tirana, providing direct connections to the Albanian capital.

The United Kingdom will also see an increase in links, with easyJet launching new connections to Glasgow and Newcastle upon Tyne, and Jet2 introducing a new route to London Gatwick Airport. The UK is currently one of Malta International Airport’s most important markets, with a 18. 1% share of traffic in February.

Speaking of February, the airport saw a total of 658,328 passengers, with a peak of 30,875 daily movements on 15 February due to the end of Maltese Carnival and Valentine’s Day celebrations. The seat capacity for the month also saw a 15. 8% increase compared to the previous year, with a seat load factor of 81. 6%, marking a 1. 1% improvement.

Despite the strong start to the year and the expanded summer schedule, Malta International Airport remains vigilant of geopolitical developments and is in constant communication with airlines, particularly those operating flights to countries affected by conflicts.
